Guardianship Self-Help Kits under the Dependent Adults Act

Please note: Applications under the Dependent Adults Act are still accepted by Court until January 31, 2010. All other aspects of the Dependent Adults Act have been replaced by the Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act.

If you have decided to apply for guardianship of a person or if you are having your current guardianship reviewed, you will be required to go to Court in Alberta.

You can prepare an application for guardianship yourself by using our free self-help kit, or you can hire a lawyer to prepare an application for you.

There are two self-help kits available under the old Dependent Adults Act. They are designed for people who applied for guardianship (or for a review of guardianship) without hiring a lawyer prior to October 30, 2009. You can access the kits below, or obtain them free from the Public Guardian.

There are two parts to each kit. The first part describes the steps you need to follow. The second part contains the Court forms that you will need to complete.
