Grants are available to assist with operational costs, recreational programs, historical preservation activities and community recognition or events.
Alberta Foundation for the Arts
The Alberta Foundation for the Arts supports artistic programming by non-profit organizations through project-based or community operating funding.
Alberta Historical Resources Foundation
The Alberta Historical Resources Foundation provides matching grants to individuals and organizations for heritage initiatives, including restoration of historical buildings as well as publications, research and heritage awareness projects.
Community Facility Enhancement Program
The Community Facility Enhancement Program provides funding to purchase, build, renovate or upgrade public-use community facilities.
Community Initiatives Program
The Community Initiatives Program provides funding to support initiatives that enhance and enrich communities throughout Alberta under 3 distinct funding streams:
Enabling Accessibility Fund
The Enabling Accessibility Fund provides funding for eligible capital projects that increase accessibility for people with disabilities in Canadian communities and workplaces. It aims to create more opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in community activities, programs and services, or access employment opportunities.
The New Horizons for Seniors Program
The New Horizons for Seniors Program provides grants or contributes funding for projects led or inspired by seniors who want to make a difference in the lives of others and in their communities.
Grants for municipalities
Basic municipal transportation grants
The Basic Municipal Transportation Grant program provides annual, allocation-based support to Alberta municipalities for their capital transportation infrastructure requirements.
Examples of eligible capital projects include construction and rehabilitation of:
- local and regional roads, streets and municipal bridges
- municipally owned infrastructure for transit systems including LRT lines and stations, bus terminals and transit passenger vehicles
Family and Community Support Services
Family and Community Support Services promote and enhance well-being among individuals, families and communities.
Funding is allocated locally to best meet the needs of the community and its residents, and is provided by a partnership between the province, and a municipality or Metis settlement.
Green Transit Incentives Program – Green TRIP
The Green Transit Incentives Program for capital funding supports new public transit projects that aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through reduced traffic congestion by reducing the number of vehicles on the roads.
Eligible initiatives include the development of local, regional and intercity public transit projects.
Municipal Grants Web Portal
The Municipal Grants Web Portal provides information on available provincial grant programs supporting municipalities. Each grant program page includes eligibility requirements, guidelines and application forms.
Municipal Sustainability Initiative
The Municipal Sustainability Initiative helps support local infrastructure priorities and builds strong, safe and resilient communities.
Regional Collaboration Program
The Regional Collaboration Program supports strategic activities that improve the viability and long-term sustainability of municipalities through regional collaboration and capacity building.
Eligible projects include:
- the development of intermunicipal partnerships through shared administration and integrated growth management plans
- transitional costs associated with the shared delivery of municipal services
- internship program costs
Other grants
Other organizations may provide funding to non-profit organizations that support programs which promote health and wellbeing or offer a social service. Check your telephone directory or search online to identify organizations that may have funding available for seniors’ organizations.
